Mini-splits are a great heating and cooling option because treated air doesn't need to access your home’s existing ductwork. Unlike window-mounted AC units, this year-round solution never takes away your scenic views—plus, they’re safer, as window units can easily fall out.
A compressor/condenser system will be mounted outside your home—anchored to the exterior siding or mounted on a concrete slab. In apartments, the rooftop is another compressor location option. Inside the home, the air handling unit is typically mounted on an exterior-facing wall. All it takes is drilling a 3-inch hole to the house’s exterior to run conduit, cables, and drain lines. Then, your choice of cool or warm air is just a remote control option away.
A single compressor can feed one or more air handling units, each mounted in a different room to provide individual comfort settings.
